On Sunday October 25, 2020, at approximately 7:00 p.m. members of the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a complaint regarding a rental van travelling northbound on Trenton-Frankford Road that was emitting a strong odour of marijuana. Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on County Road 5, west of Frankford.

Police investigation led to the arrest of the driver and multiple cannabis related charges being laid. The Quinte West OPP Community Street Crime Unit assisted with the seizure of more than 70 garbage bags of suspected cannabis plants, weighing more than 517-kilograms (1440 lbs), cash, and a cell phone. 

Phuoc NGUYEN, 56 years old, of Hamilton has been charged with the following:

  • Possessing Cannabis for the Purpose of Selling
  • Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available
  • Cultivate, Propagate or Harvest more than Four Cannabis Plants
  • Possession of One or More Cannabis Plants in Public Place (are Budding or Flowering)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on December 14, 2020.
