Woman charged with operation while prohibited

On Wednesday, October 28th, police received a tip that a woman with a suspended driver’s license was operating a vehicle on D’Arcy Street in the Town of Cobourg.
Police located the described vehicle parked and unoccupied. The vehicle was later observed travelling southbound on Cottesmore Avenue, and police conducted a traffic stop.
As a result of the traffic stop, 71-year-old Denise Palermo of Cobourg was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Operation while prohibited contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Owner operate vehicle- no insurance contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
- Drive motor vehicle – no validation on plate contrary to section 7(1)(c)(i) of the Highway Traffic Act
- Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle contrary to section 7(5)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act
The accused was subsequently released on an undertaking with a future court date. The vehicle was towed for a 45-day impound.
