At around 1:30AM, emergency services were called to the HWY 401 west of CR-30 in the eastbound lanes for a tractor trailer that had jackknifed, and rolled over.
During the collision, the truck sustained a ruptured fuel line, and leaked fuel on the roadway, and in the ditch.
Upon arrival of emergency services, OPP reported slick, icy roads. Shortly after arrival, a second transport was reported to have also gone into the ditch. No further information on the second collision is available.
A witness to the crash told us that speed was not a factor in the collision.
Thankfully no injuries were reported. The driver was checked out by Northumberland County Paramedics, and was given the all clear.
The truck was hauling a corrosive material at the time of the collision that did not spill. Brighton and Cramahe Fire Departments were able to stop the fuel leak, and confirm the goods were stable. The substance is not known, other than it is corrosive.
Currently, one lane of traffic is getting past the collision site, however the line of vehicles went on for kilometres.
Due to weather, and safety concerns we were not able to get on scene of this crash. The image attached is from CR-30 looking towards the crash site.
We will have more on this to come.
