Cobourg Police arrest one male after trying to use counterfeit currency

On Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020 at 4:56 pm, members of the Cobourg Police Service responded to a report of a suspicious male at several businesses in the North end of Cobourg attempting to utilize counterfeit money.

Police located the male a short distance away and as a result of police investigation 27-year-old Mate RICSAK of Toronto was arrested and charged with the following offences:

1) Possession of Counterfeit Money contrary to section 450 of the Criminal Code x3
2) Uttering Counterfeit Money contrary to section 452(a) of the Criminal Code x3
3) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to section 355(b) of the Criminal Code
4) Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

RICSAK was held in custody pending a Bail Hearing on December 24th, 2020.

Police are also requesting that any local businesses check their cash registers or floats for any counterfeit money that they may have received on today’s date, specifically US bills.
