QUINTE WEST OPP ARREST MALE FOR UTTERING THREATS – SIU INVOKES MANDATE

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in a threat investigation.

On January 3, 2021, shortly before 1:00 p.m., the OPP responded to a residence on McMaster Road in the City of Quinte West. An individual had made threats against others at the home.

The male had fled before officers arrived, but was located. The male suffered an injury during the interaction and was transported to hospital by Hastings-Quinte Paramedics with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 27-year male from Belleville was arrested and has been charged under section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code with Uttering Threats to cause death or bodily harm.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on February 2, 2021.

The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate. As a result the OPP will not be able to provide any further information.
