FIRE DESTROYS HISTORIC BUILDING IN DOWNTOWN COLBORNE

It was around 6:00PM this evening that emergency services were called to an address on Toronto St in downtown Colborne for a fully involved structure fire.

The call came in to Peterborough fire dispatch from an off duty firefighter who came across the fire.

Upon arrival of Cramahe Fire Department, fire fighters came into contact with heavy smoke. The building was fully involved so crews had to take an external defensive attack on the fire.

At this time, the fire is being investigated, and is currently deemed suspicious.

Brighton Fire and Trent Hills Fire we’re called in for mutual aid. Hamilton Township Fire was called for mutual aid as they house the counties shared air supply trailer.

At the time of the fire, the business that called the structure home was not open. No one was in the building at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported.

Emergency services did an amazing job at ensuring scene safety and protecting the nearby exposures from fire.

It is believed that the fire began in the basement of the building but the cause has not yet been determined.
