Northumberland OPP have confirmed in a release that the fire in Colborne that displaced 8 occupants has been deemed as suspicious. Initial reports from the scene indicated that the fire had been intentionally set by a resident in one of the units.
Shortly after 12PM on Feb 13 emergency services were called to 11 Toronto St in Colborne for a working structure fire. Multiple calls came in to the Peterborough Fire Communications centre for a working fire in a multi-unit dwelling.
Cramahe Township Fire Department responded along with mutual aid from Brighton Fire & Rescue, Trent Hills Fire & Rescue and Hamilton Township Fire Department who house the counties air supply trailer. Northumberland County OPP also responded to the call for service along with Northumberland County Paramedics.
The Northumberland OPP secured the scene while the OPP Major Crime Unit investigated the incident with the assistance from the Central Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM). The investigation continues.
