COMMUNITY CENTRE RD CLOSED – 500 WITHOUT POWER FOLLOWING A SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION

Emergency services responded to the area of Community Centre Rd and Les Davey Rd for a report of a single vehicle MVC around 7:15pm this evening.

One person has been transported to hospital with what appears to be minor injuries after a vehicle travelling eastbound on Community Centre Rd left the roadway and struck a hydro pole. The vehicle continued off the roadway and into a nearby brush.

Two occupants of the vehicle were checked out by first responders and one was transported to hospital with minor injuries. Community Centre Rd is closed just east of Les Davey Rd with hydro wires 10ft above the road, an exploded transformer on the ground and a snapped hydro pole.

Power outages are reported in the area with about 500 people without power in the surrounding areas of the collision. Hydro Ones current ETA for restoration is 11:45pm however as the investigation continues the ETA may be extended.

A nearby home owner heard the explosion and immediately called 9-1-1 after discovering the vehicle in the brush with dangling hydro wires above the road connected to the broken hydro pole.

Hydro One is on location assessing damage and determining how the repair will be made. Community Centre Rd will remain closed until such repairs are made.

If you ever find yourself in a situation where hydro wires or transformers are on the ground always stay in your vehicle whether it is due to an accident or weather. For bystanders, getting closer to the scene gets more dangerous with every step you take. Hydro travels through the ground and within a step to close you can be electrocuted and add another victim for first responders to treat.
