The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid additional charges, and upgraded previously reported charges on three accused persons.

On February 20, 2021, at approximately 5:00 p.m. Quinte West OPP responded to a shoplifting incident at a business on 2nd Dug Hill Road in Trenton. Police arrested three people and recovered approximately $2200 in stolen merchandise. Quinte West Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) assisted with the investigation and executed a search warrant on a motor vehicle at the scene where police recovered an additional $5000 worth of suspected stolen property.

Further CSCU investigation learned that the accused persons are alleged to have committed additional thefts on February 5, February 19, and February 20, 2021 at businesses in Cobourg, Trenton, and Bowmanville of merchandise valued at approximately $21000.   

Shahbaz SINGH, 26 years old of Brampton, Simarjit GARCHA, 30 years old of St Catherines, and Harendra SINGH of Mississauga have been charged with:

  • Theft over $5000 – two counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 – two counts

Harendra SINGH also faces charges for:

  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000; and
  • Fail to comply with release order – other than to attend court – two counts
