SUSPECT IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING AN 8 HOUR MANHUNT

It was shortly before 1AM this morning that an officer with the OPP attempted to stop a vehicle on CR14 just west of HWY 62, Northwest of Belleville. The suspects vehicle became involved in a MVC with the OPP cruiser.

A/OPP Media Relations Manager Bill Dickson says that the officer left his vehicle when he was stabbed in a serious assault. He is being treated in hospital for his injuries which are considered serious.

Residents of the Foxboro area, northwest of Belleville, were advised to shelter in place and to keep doors locked. A large police presence was seen in the area, searching for an individual, considered to be dangerous.

The wanted individual left the scene on foot.

At this time Charles “Chuck” PARKINSON has been arrested on attempted murder charges following an 8 hour man hunt consisting of officers from many neighbouring OPP detachments. The suspect was located near Tuckers Corners, approximately 5 KM north of HWY 401 on Wallbridge Loyalist Rd without further incident.

Our thoughts are with the OPP officer who has been seriously injured after being stabbed. We hope that he makes a full recovery!
