The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver following a single vehicle collision.

On May 6, 2021, at approximately 9:20 p.m., Quinte West OPP was dispatched to County Road 40, just south of Highway 2 in Trenton in response to a report of a single vehicle in the ditch. Police located one person with the vehicle who had visible injuries to their head. The individual was transported by paramedics to hospital for treatment. The injured person, who was confirmed to be the driver of the vehicle was also showing signs of impairment. As a result, the accused was arrested for impaired driving. Investigation also learned that the driver had a suspended driver’s license.

Christopher SMITH, 38 years old from Quinte West has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on May 20, 2021. Additionally, their vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
