PORT HOPE POLICE ARREST 73 Y/O PORT HOPE RESIDENT AFTER ASSAULTING AN OFFICER WITH A WEAPON

A 73 year old Port Hope resident has been arrested after police responded to a fight in progress at the Ganaraska Hotel on Ontario St. It happened just after 10:45PM, Thursday night.

Upon arrival, police attempted to arrest 73 year-old Port Hope resident Tom Alger for assault. Police say that Alger pulled, and pushed the officer away. Alger continued to resist arrest, and grabbed a fixed blade knife that was hanging on the wall.

As a result police utilized a CEW (taser) to prevent the man from using the knife he had picked up. Alger is charged with Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest, and Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon.

Police say Tom Alger was taken into custody and released later in the morning on an appearance notice to appear in court on July 14, 2021 to answer to the charges.
