The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver following a single vehicle collision.
On July 17, 2021, at approximately 6:45 p.m.., Quinte West OPP responded to a report of a westbound vehicle striking the center median on Highway 401 near St Hilaire Road in Quinte West. A passenger was transported to hospital by paramedics with non-life threatening injuries, and the driver was assessed by paramedics on scene and was uninjured. When speaking with the driver, officers detected signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside screening test was administered, and as a result the driver was arrested for impaired driving. The accused was transported to the Quinte West OPP detachment for testing where blood alcohol levels were determined to be in excess of the legal limit.
Victor MACLEOD, 44 years old of Quinte West was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and driving while under suspension. Their license was suspended for 90 days and additionally their vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused was released from custody on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on August 5, 2021.
