Male arrested for possession of prohibited weapon

In the early morning hours of July 29th, Officers on general patrol conducted a traffic stop on Division Street in the Town of Cobourg. Subsequent to Police investigation, grounds were established for a search of the vehicle.

A prohibited weapon was located by Police which resulted in the driver being arrested and the weapon seized. The driver was identified as 38-year-old Christopher KNEILANDS of Port Hope who was charged with the following:

  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon in motor vehicle contrary to section 94(2) of the Criminal Code
  • Fail to comply with undertaking contrary to section 145(4) of the Criminal Code
  • Speeding Contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor contrary to the Liquor License Act

KNEILANDS was released from Police custody on an appearance notice and summons to defendant with a future court date.
