MOTORCYCLE RIDER CHARGED AFTER FAILING TO STOP

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges after the operator of a motorcycle failed to stop for police.

On August 15, 2021, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a Quinte West OPP officer patrolling westbound on Hamilton Road observed an eastbound motorcycle driving at over twice the speed limit at approximately 170 km/hr. After catching up to the motorcycle at a red light on Wallbridge Loyalist Road, the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop. It’s alleged that the motorcycle operator then accelerated through the red light at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for police. Officers followed up at the registered owners address, and as a result, the operator was charged.

Alexander GONYOU, 24 years old from Quinte West has been charged with flight from peace officer and dangerous operation.

The accused was released with an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on October 14, 2021
