The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges after a person provided police a false name.

On August 13, 2021, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Quinte West OPP responded to a report of an intoxicated person walking into traffic at King Street and Maclellan Avenue in Trenton. The individual was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and transported to the Quinte West Detachment where they were to be held until they were no longer a risk to themselves or the public due to alcohol intoxication.

At approximately 11:40 p.m., the same day, a Quinte West OPP officer who was in the process of releasing the individual from custody discovered that the accused had provided a false name upon arrest. As a result, the accused was arrested.

Erick WALLACE, 25 years old from Prince Edward County has been charged with obstruct peace officer and failure to comply with a release order.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on August 14, 2021.
