Port Hope Police – Traffic stop leads to impaired driving charges

On Sunday October 31st, 2021, while on general patrol, police observed a motor vehicle traveling in the area of Ontario Street, at a high rate of speed and with no lights on.

Police conducted a traffic stop on the motor vehicle, and after detecting odor of alcohol, made a demand on the driver to provide a breath sample of their breath in an Approved Screening Device.

The driver provided a sample, and the Approved Screening Device read a Caution, advising the driver had a Blood Alcohol Concentration between 50mg to 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in their system. As a result the driver had their vehicle towed, and their driver’s license was suspended for 3 days.

Port Hope Police Service want to remind the public to always plan for a safe way to get home, and encourage to call 911 if you suspect an impaired driver. Port Hope Police Service will be conducting ride programs as we get into the holiday season, and will have no tolerance for impaired driving.
