Town of Cobourg – Town of Cobourg Flag Procedure on Remembrance Day

The Town of Cobourg would like to advise residents that all Town-owned flags across the community will be intentionally raised and then lowered again to honour Remembrance Day on Thursday, November 11, 2021.

Following the National Flag of Canada half-masting notice released on May 30, 2021, direction was given that all Government of Canada buildings and establishments across Canada lower their flags to half-mast until further notice in recognition of the discovery of remains at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School and all residential schools. All flags across Town-owned buildings and establishments will also fly at half-mast until further notice has been provided.

In recognition of Remembrance Day, both the Government of Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion have recently advised that flags will be temporarily raised at the National War Memorial in Ottawa before the Remembrance Day ceremony and then lowered again to half-mast. The Town of Cobourg and the Royal Canadian Legion Cobourg Branch #133 will be following this direction during the local Remembrance Day Ceremony taking place on November 11, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the Victoria Park Cenotaph.

The Town of Cobourg would also like to advise residents that the Victoria Hall building flag poles above the portico are not equipped with halyards and pullies and, as such, are unable to fly at half-mast. However, the newly installed flagpole to the east of the building will be able to accommodate current federal direction on flags.
