It was earlier this afternoon when emergency services were called to multiple collision scenes on highway 401 between Lyle St and Percy St which prompted the closure of the eastbound lanes.
OPP on scene explained approximately 30-40 vehicles had been involved in several separate collisions along an approximate 10 kilometre stretch of highway. Involved vehicles ranged from a plow truck to commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles.
No serious injuries were reported with the collisions, however one person was transported to local hospital as a precaution.
Drivable vehicles were asked to travel to a nearby carpool lot where police documented the collisions.
A quick change in weather conditions that brought white out conditions and drifting snow is the leading cause of these accidents, explained a Northumberland OPP Constable.
