PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY RESIDENT ARRESTED FIR IMPAIRED IN QUINTE WEST

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid an impaired driving charge following a traffic stop in Trenton.

On January 15, 2022 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Quinte West OPP observed a vehicle make an abrupt turn into traffic, followed by it stopping in the live lane on Dundas Street West in Trenton. A traffic stop was initiated and after speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside screening test was administered, and as a result the driver was arrested for impaired driving. The accused was transported to the Quinte West OPP Detachment for further testing where their blood alcohol levels were determined to be above the legal limit.

Edward SMITH, 22 years old of Prince Edward County has been charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). Their license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven (7) days.

The accused was released from custody on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on January 27, 2022.
