Town of Cobourg – Public Information Meeting on Parking Rate Increase Proposal Takes Place February 7

Members of the public are invited to virtually attend a presentation on the Town of Cobourg parking rate increase proposal on Monday, February 7th, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. The meeting will share details of the various parking changes being proposed to Cobourg’s Waterfront and Downtown parking areas.

The meeting will be available via livestream at A Staff Report on the proposed changes is currently availableand includes details of the various staff recommendations and associated budget impacts for implementation of the improvements. The proposed changes include the following:

Waterfront Parking

  • Rate Increase
  • Parking Ticket Fine Changes
  • Existing Paid Parking Area Expansion
  • Proposed New Paid Waterfront Parking Areas
  • Proposed New Daily Waterfront Pass
  • Proposed New Resident Waterfront Seasonal Pass
  • Proposed New Resident Accessible Parking Permit (Waterfront)

Downtown On-Street and Lot Parking

  • Rate Increase
  • Parking Ticket Fine Changes
  • Parking Infrastructure Upgrades
  • Proposed New Resident Accessible Parking Permit (Downtown)
  • Maximum Time Allotment
  • Proposed Daily Pass Changes

Notices were circulated to all residents/addresses within the subject new paid parking area east of Victoria Park. The DBIA board and all members also received a copy of the notice regarding proposed increased rates for downtown meters and lots.

Town Council will further consider the parking rate increase proposal at the February 14, 2022, Committee of the Whole meeting.

In 2014, a parking study was completed for the Town by Paradigm Transportation Solutions Limited which provided a wide variety of recommendations to improve parking effectiveness in Cobourg including rate increases. Since the parking study was completed, the Town has implemented several recommendations already such as paid parking downtown, an updated parking website and map, increased By-law enforcement on weekends, free shuttle services for major special events, as well as clear and consistent downtown municipal parking lot signage.
