It was around 9:10PM Thursday evening when members from all three Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services stations were called to a commercial structure fire at 344 Ward St in the Municipality of Port Hope.
The 9-1-1 call was received from a neighbouring property reporting heavy black smoke was spewing from within the commercial structure.
When crews arrived they were met with heavy thick black smoke coming from the interior of the structure along with flames visible. Crews immediately began attacking the fire with offensive operations.
Heavy fire was found within the roof of the structure.
Approximately 2 hours later, crews marked the fire under control and overhaul commenced.
Members of the Cobourg Fire Department responded to Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services station 1 on Ontario St while members of the Hamilton Township Fire Department responded to Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services station 3 in Garden Hill to standby for call coverage.
At 12:37 a loss-stop was called and crews began to leave the scene. A fire crew will remain on a fire watch for most of the evening and morning to watch for fire rekindle.
