The Northumberland County training association hosted over 30 firefighter recruits this weekend completing the NFPA 1001 firefighter I structural search and rescue and firefighter survival training sign offs.
Recruits from surrounding municipalities took advantage of a newly constructed training prop that allows students real life training in a controlled environment.
“This type of training is paramount to the safety and survival of firefighters and the citizens of Northumberland County.” Said Deputy Chief Michael Robinson, Hamilton Township Fire Department
Strategies like this type of joint training are becoming more important with the recent announcement of mandatory firefighter certification by the province. The instructors for the weekend were senior firefighters and officers from throughout the County.
Using in house instructors helps to build relationships with the recruits and solidifies processes used throughout County Fire Departments.
