Peterborough Police warning after a string of online rental scams

Peterborough Police are warning the public about a rental scam that is currently circulating.

Officers were made aware of the scam on September 15, 2022 and started an investigation.  Since that time several more victims have come forward.  In each case, the victim answered an online advertisement for a room available at an address on Cahill Drive in Peterborough.  Victims provided money to the landlord only to find out it was a scam. Officers have since learned that the person posting the advertisements is not the owner and are concerned there may be more victims.  Victims were given the name TJ or Thomas Connolly as the contact for the rental.

These incidents are still part of an ongoing investigation and anyone with information about a rental opportunity at 1637 Cahill Drive is asked to call Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.stopcrimehere.ca
