TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO RECOVERY OF STOLEN PROPERTY: PETERBOROUGH COUNTY OPP

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a parked vehicle with a trailer containing three personal watercrafts on Highway 28 at approximately 11:45 a.m. yesterday morning. A wellbeing check was conducted on the sleeping occupants. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from the Toronto area and the trailer containing three personal watercrafts had been stolen from the Bancroft area. Officers seized methamphetamine, break-in instruments and cell phones during a search of the vehicle. 

Shawna NEWTON (age 38) of Toronto, was charged with:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance-methamphetamine

• Possession of property obtained by crime-over $5000-four counts

• Possession of property obtained by crime-under $5000

• Possession break-in instruments

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on November 16, 2022.

Michael SOUSA (age 33) of Toronto, was charged with:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance-methamphetamine

• Possession of property obtained by crime-over $5000-four counts

• Possession of property obtained by crime-under $5000

• Possession break-in instruments

• Obstruct peace officer

• Failure to comply with release order

The accused is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough later today.
