Traffic stop leads to drug seizure and two arrests: Quinte West OPP

The Quinte West Detachment’s Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested two people and laid multiple charges following a traffic stop in Trenton.

On October 13, 2022, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Quinte West OPP’s CSCU assisted by members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) stopped a taxi on Byron Street after determining two people within the vehicle were wanted by police. Both accused were arrested, and following a search, a quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine, green fentanyl, and other items suspected to be related to drug trafficking were seized including cash and cellphones.

Kyle LAIRD, 33 years old and Brenda BANKS, 34 years old, both from Quinte West have been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl;
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine;
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000

Additionally, LAIRD was charged with three counts of failing to comply with a probation order and BANKS was charged with one count of failing to comply with a probation order.

Both accused were held in custody and are scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on October 14, 2022.
