Six-month-long investigation leads to manslaughter charges for 24-year-old Toronto resident: Peterborough Police

A six-month investigation into a sudden death involving opioids in Peterborough has resulted in manslaughter charges against a 24-year-old Toronto man.

On April 13, 2022, the Peterborough Police Service attended a residence on Hunter Street East in response to a 47-year-old male found with vital signs absent.

The Peterborough Police Service thoroughly investigates all sudden deaths to help with closure for the families and ensure public safety in our community.  In this case, when further information came to light about the circumstances, a criminal investigation was launched and an arrest warrant for the accused issued on October 5, 2022.

On October 10, 2022, Peterborough Police was made aware that a man wanted in connection with the death had been arrested on a separate matter in Toronto.  The accused was returned to Peterborough.

As a result of the investigation, 24-year-old Tshierry Cite of Toronto was arrested on the following charges:

  • Manslaughter
  • Causing Death by Criminal Negligence
  • Traffick in Schedule I substance – Opioid (other than heroin)

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.
