It was around 10:00 a.m., this morning when members of the Port Hope Police Service responded to the Guardian Pharmacy on Toronto Rd in the north end of the Town of Port Hope. A lone suspect walked into the pharmacy armed with a gun and demanded items from the employee before fleeing the scene.
Port Hope Police Chief, Bryant Wood told Northumberland County Breaking News Feed that the suspect attempted the flee the scene in a white SUV. Uniform officers as well as detectives with the Criminal Investigations Branch were quick to respond where they saw the suspect drive his vehicle into a nearby ditch rendering it not drivable.
A short foot pursuit ensued and the suspect was arrested at gunpoint in a nearby cemetery. Wood also added that police are not searching for any other suspects and there is no threat to public safety.
At this time there is no word on what the suspect got away with, if anything at all. OPP are on scene assisting the Port Hope Police with the investigation. Chief Wood added his appreciation to the quick action of the members at the Port Hope Police who quickly responded and removed any risk to public safety.
