Suspicious package dropped off at Whitby business: Durham Regional Police

On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at approximately 12:45 p.m., members from Central West Division responded to the area of Thickson Road South and Wentworth Street after they received information that an employee received a suspicious package. The area was sealed off and the Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) was called in.

The EDU conducted a controlled detonation of the device, and the area was made safe.  Officers continued their on-scene investigation, and it is believed that this device was not capable of detonating.

Investigating officers believe this to be an isolated incident and the investigation is ongoing.  

Anyone with information pertaining to this investigation is asked to call D/Cst. Fitzgerald of the Central West Criminal Investigation Bureau at 1-888-579-1520. ext. 1877.

Anonymous information can be sent to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
