Cobourg Police are investigating a “distraction theft” that occurred in the parking lot of a Cobourg business

The Cobourg Police Service (CPS) is investigating a distraction theft that occurred in the parking lot of a business in the Town of Cobourg.

On October 28, 2022, at 4:15 p.m., police were called to a parking lot of a business on Elgin Street West for a report of a theft that happened approximately 45 minutes earlier. 

Two men approached a woman loading her vehicle. One man told the woman he thought something might be wrong with her tire, while the other man entered the car and removed a wallet from a purse on the passenger seat. 

The man who spoke to the victim is described as white, approximately 65 years of age, slim build with short black/grey hair and spoke with an accent.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-372-6821 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or visiting stopcrimehere.ca. Tips received through Crime Stoppers may be eligible for a cash reward.
