Quinte West OPP have made an arrest after a stolen vehicle fled from police

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested one person following an incident involving a stolen motor vehicle that fled from police and crashed.

On November 9, 2022, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Quinte West OPP attempted to stop a motor vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401, near the Wallbridge-Loyalist exit. The vehicle initially stopped for police and then accelerated away when the officer approached the vehicle. The officer observed the suspect vehicle exit the 401 at Wallbridge-Loyalist Road.

A short time later, a motor vehicle collision was reported in the parking lot of the 10 Acre Truck Stop on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road. Witnesses observed a white Jeep Wrangler hit a pole and the driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot. Police investigation determined it was the same vehicle that fled from Police on Highway 401 and that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Toronto.

A search of the area ensued, assisted by the Belleville Police Service Canine Unit. The suspect was arrested a short time later on Enterprise Drive in the City of Belleville.

Tery Roodmaer PHILIPPE, 19 years old, of Lavalle Quebec was charged with:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Flight from peace officer

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on November 10, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
