Traffic stop due to expired license plate leads to arrest and drug charges in Trenton: OPP

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged the driver of a vehicle with multiple offences following a traffic stop in Trenton.

On November 14, 2022, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Quinte West OPP stopped a vehicle on North Murray Street in Trenton for a Highway Traffic Act violation. Investigation determined that the driver was prohibited under the Criminal Code from operating a motor vehicle. The accused was arrested for prohibited driving. Following a search of the vehicle a quantity of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine was seized.

Michael KUHN, 36 years old from Quinte West has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on December 19, 2022. Additionally, their vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
