Complaint leads to impaired charge for Port Hope resident: Police

On January 23, 2023, a Cobourg citizen reported to Police that they witnessed a person attempt to use a gas pump on Division Street, but the individual was stumbling and appeared to be visually intoxicated. A “BOLO” alert was sent to Port Hope Police as the vehicle in question had a license plate that was registered to an address on Sanders Drive.

Officers attended the address and the vehicle was parked in the driveway, engine running, and a male was observed in the driver’s seat. Officers conducted a breath test with an approved screening device which the driver failed. He was then taken into custody and a qualified breath tech confirmed he was indeed impaired.

As a result, Peter RICHARDSON of Port Hope was charged with Adult Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and Adult Operation while impaired – drugs and alcohol. Richardson was released on an Appearance Notice for a court date of February 22, 2023. He was also served a 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension, an Impound Notice, and a Notice of Increased Penalty.

Anyone with information on a crime are asked to contact Port Hope Police at 905-885-8123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS
